First off, we want to apologize. We know that a number of you are experiencing significant problems with Goodbudget.
We have traced a collection of issues back to Monday’s maintenance release and believe we have found the root cause.
Your transaction data is safe. The problem is that we are displaying it incorrectly to you, and we are in the process of fixing our system so that you can see the correct data – in the correct places – as you have come to expect from Goodbudget.
The root cause can show up as a collection of symptoms that can appear to you as incorrect balances, discrepancies between a balance and the running balance in the transaction history, previously reconciled transactions re-surfacing, or a combination of the symptoms we’ve addressed below. These problems are understandably very disruptive and disconcerting. We sincerely apologize!
Thus far, we have addressed the following symptoms:
unable to load transactions on the web
incomplete backup on iPhone (Find the latest version on the App Store. More details here)
incomplete backup on Android (Find the latest version on the Google Play Store. More details here)
duplicate incomes
duplicate envelope fills
previously confirmed transactions re-surfacing
previously matched expenses no longer matched
pending transactions re-surfacing
… and incorrect balances related to the eight issues above.
We will update this post as we step through the process of cleaning this up. The process involves humans (us and our teammates!), and we appreciate your patience.
If your data looks incorrect on the web, you can email us at support [at] goodbudget.com with the email address associated with your household. A real, live human based in our San Francisco office will write you back, but it might take us a little while.
Again, we sincerely apologize! And we’re diligently working on fixing these problems.
@amy1 I’m sorry that things are still glitchy for you! And we understand that this makes it hard to pay bills when you can’t see the balances you rely on. We are replying to emails and fixing problems as quickly as we can. We appreciate your patience.
A brief update that the following two issues have been fixed:
previously confirmed transactions re-surfacing, and incorrect balances related to this
pending transactions re-surfacing
And for those who can’t back up on iPhone, we’ve written a fix for that and are waiting for Apple’s review process to get it out on the App Store for you to download.
We continue to work on the remaining issues. Thank you for your patience!
Hi, my app has not updated. When I try to refresh, it shows “last backup is null”. My bank connections are fine, but the last transaction is from 7/29/2026. It shows I have 2 transactions to confirm, which are old, and when I try to confirm or delete the transaction; the app closes.
I deleted the app from my phone and reinstalled it from the app store (iphone). Goodbudget is still not working. Whatever happened on Monday is still affecting the users. Please push out an update to fix the continue crashes.
Web seems correct, but android app does not show recent transactions after 1 Aug. Reinstalling app and removing data struggles a bit downloading transactions but in the end still shows them up to 1 Aug.
My web version is still wrong. Has duplicate transactions which isn’t right. Also no update for app on android and that is still wrong as well. I am on the free version and I do not have it linked to any bank info thru plaid. I’ve sent an email from gano…
Did full data cleanup and reinstall, loads transactions for 5 minutes until 1 Aug then crashes, reopen on transactions crashes again. Something is not right with android still.
For those who have been unable to backup on Android, that issue is now fixed in the latest version 2.24.26013 on the Google Play Store. To make sure you get a full copy of your data onto your phone, follow the instructions on this thread to get the fix.
@Boris_Rybalkin What you’re describing with web being correct, but Android only showing transactions up to 1 Aug is addressed in the latest Android version (2.24.26013), which is different from the one you tried to reinstall 12 hours ago
I’m seeing previously reconciled transactions that are no longer reconciled. It looks like my previous end-of-June reconciliation for an account has been wiped out. I see this as I’m running a simple DIFF on downloaded CSV files from today and ~ July 22.
That was not on the list of possible impacts above. Should I assume it’s related?
Yes, that sounds likely to be related, and I’ve added this to the list of possible impacts. Email us with the email address you used to register your Goodbudget household, as well as the name of the affected Account, and we’ll take a look!
For those listening in, glenl’s issue is from Account Reconciliations done on the web at Log In | Personal Budget Software | Goodbudget ; this issue has not been addressed globally yet.
However, the more common issue that affected confirmed transactions done by ‘click to confirm’ on web or ‘swipe to confirm’ on iPhone has already been addressed.
@ussher Yes, it’s likely that issue where an edit doesn’t stick is related. We’d advise you to get the latest iPhone version (5.4.22). If you’re still having the issue after getting version 5.4.22, then email us and we’ll take a look.
@ussher That is the old version, and it looks like you’re viewing a listing from iOS Settings > iPhone Storage. From your iPhone’s home screen, you’ll need to go to App Store > Search > Goodbudget > Update in order to get the latest version.
