Updated Balance Transaction

I have a transaction in my checking account from last June where I had to update the balance of my checking account by $6.00. It shows up every time I reconcile my checking account as there is no way to clear it without having a variance in my reconciliation. Is there a way to clear this transaction so it does not show up every month?

Hi @iBobFX4 - Thanks for your post. It is possible to forcibly reconcile that item so it stops showing up on the reconcile screen.

To do that, I’d recommend waiting until the next time you’re ready to reconcile. Then, in order to finish your reconcile, you’ll need to adjust your Previous Balance by 6 to account for the adjustment transaction. Then you should be able to finish the reconcile.

If you’re in-between reconciliations, then you can reconcile the adjustment transaction by itself. Here are the steps:

  • Click ‘Reconcile’ on your Account
  • Enter your ‘Previous Balance’ in the ‘Statement Balance’ field
  • Enter ‘0.00’ in the ‘Previous Balance’ field
  • Change the ‘Date’ to match the date of your last reconcile (GB should list it for you)
  • ‘Continue’
  • Clear your adjustment transaction by marking the checkbox
  • Write down your ‘Left to Clear’ Amount, and ‘Postpone’ the reconcile
  • Click on ‘Reconcile’ again, and enter the ‘Left to Clear’ amount in the ‘Previous Balance’ field
  • ‘Continue’ and you should be able to ‘Finish’ the reconcile
