Starting Balance for my checking account was erased

I’m experiencing what appears to be a unique issue.

While clearing transactions and cross-referencing them with my online checking account, I noticed that one of my scheduled paycheck transactions was off by one cent. I opened the transaction to correct it, but when I reviewed the Fill Envelopes screen, the amount there was already correct. I clicked Update, and immediately afterward the account balances became incorrect.

My cleared balance still matches my bank account, but my current balance is showing as a negative amount. I understand that I can use the option to edit the account balance, but that does not resolve the problem. Because the current balance is negative, GB wants to create an adjustment credit of approximately $2,600. That adjustment then affects the cleared balance even though the cleared balance was already correct.

For example, if my cleared balance is $1,500 and my current balance is -$1,100, editing the balance creates a $2,600 credit adjustment. After adding the adjustment, the software treats it as a legitimate credit transaction and changes the balances to a $4,100 cleared balance and a $1,500 current balance. While the current balance appears correct at that point, the cleared balance is no longer accurate and the adjustment transaction remains in the register. Additionally, the running balance below each transaction amount is also incorrect.

This creates another issue because when I reconcile the account at statement closing, I will have an artificial adjustment transaction that cannot be properly reconciled against my bank records.

I believe something may have glitched when I updated the paycheck transaction, causing the account balances to become out of sync. At this point, I’m unsure how to correct the issue without deleting the account and re-entering more than 95 transactions dating back to April.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did you fix it, or did you just deal with the adjustment transaction and move forward?
