My partner and I have a shared/family bank account and budget but we also still have personal accounts. I have used Goodbudget off and on for years for my personal budget, and would like to try it for our family budget. Is there a way to have multiple “households” one one account, or another way to separately manage and track two different budgets?
Hi @AH5590 - Thanks for your post! Goodbudget works best as a way to keep track of a single consolidated budget, but you can also use Envelope Groups to organize your Envelopes into different “budgets”. For example, since you’d be sharing a budget with a partner, you might do something like:
- Shared: Groceries
- Shared: Eating Out
- Personal: Groceries
- Personal: Eating Out
This will let you keep track of the balance for each individual Envelope, as well as for each group as a whole.
Finally, if you want the balance of your Personal Envelopes to match the balance of your Personal Account, then you’d need to fill those Envelopes with the same amount of money that’s in your Personal Account. Going forward, if you make any changes to the balance of your Personal Account, you’d make an equivalent change to the Personal Envelopes so that the same balance is always reflected there.
