I am all caught up on my reconciliation and am wondering why the amount in the ledger doesn’t match the balance after the last transaction of $815 (previous balance in the second screenshot).
For context I have three “active” accounts I monitor in GoodBudget. One of the three does show these two amounts matching (the ledger where the last transaction is noted on the date of the previous statement and the ending or cleared balance). The other two “active” accounts are off and the differences don’t make sense to me.
That usually happens to me when there are transactions right around the closing date of the statement, some of which are cleared and some which aren’t. Could that be it?
It could be. The statements for these two accounts “closed” on the 15th but the bank won’t release them until Monday so I am eagerly waiting to see if this latest reconciliation will fix the problem. I just sent you an email requesting a call to discuss this question and a few others I have.
This is a time issue with reconciliation, not a math problem. All posted entries are shown in the ledger, but only cleared transactions are included in the reconciled balance. the $815 is probably posted but not offset by a journal entry, dated outside the statement period, or not reconciled.
Verify the account’s cleared status, dates, and any manual modifications; a single line item is almost usually the problem.
