Pending Transactions [Premium Plan]

For the first time today (Feb 6th) I see Pending bank transactions coming through. I didn’t see an announcement regarding this enhancement but assume this was intentional.

Current state is you cant do anything with them. If you cant do anything with them then I would argue its not a benefit to have them come through (IMO). Perhaps a future enhancement is the ability to assign envelope/edit?

Hey @M_JR,

Thank you for posting this!

We did just release our Bank Pending feature and will be making an announcement soon. For now, if you would like, you can read more about how pending transactions work on our Help Center here.

The timing of when your pending and/or cleared transactions show up in your Goodbudget is mostly determined by your bank, but you can generally expect for your pending transactions to appear within a day or so of you making the purchase.

Once your real-life transaction clears, the pending item will be removed and replaced with a cleared version that you can categorize and confirm into your Envelopes. However, if Goodbudget is able to suggest an Envelope for your cleared transaction, you’ll just need to confirm the transaction instead of categorizing it first.

If you opt to manually record your spending while you wait for your cleared transactions to post to Goodbudget, you can use Goodbudget’s Match tool to merge your manual transaction with the imported one afterwards.

I hope that helps!
Chloe

Thanks for the response. My only recommendation is to not have pending transactions show up in the list to confirm (since you cant confirm them). I do think it is a benefit to see them in your account register and how they are impacting your balance, just not in your list to confirm.

I think what I saw was a unique situation where I was on the web app, had transactions to confirm and the pending transactions loaded while I was in the confirm list. As they loaded they started showing up in my confirm list. Once I confirmed all my transactions and closed the confirm list, they were removed from the confirm list. So I’m assuming they wont normally show up in my confirm list when on the web. I did notice however they do show up in the confirm list while on the apple OS app.

Not sure if this is related or just a coincidence but since Feb 5th when “pending” transactions began showing up, none of the pending transactions have cleared. I have had no new cleared transactions since Feb 5th. However, I have received new “pending” transactions.
Upon reviewing my bank account online, many of the transactions have cleared per the bank.

Ok so my issue with not clearing was simply my account became disconnected. I reconnected and everything started coming through as cleared.

However, I noticed that pending transactions show up in the list to confirm. My recommendation would be to exclude them from this list since you can not confirm them. IMO having them in the to be cleared list clutters up the list. Plus you cant confirm then so they dont need to be there. Since you can see pending transactions in the accounts register, there is no need to show them in the confirm list as well.

I am okay with the “Pending” but mine is not properly updating with the account updates. It appears once they go onto “Pending” they are not going off.

I agree! Having them listed as pending also changes your projected balance if you have any transactions entered manually. It subtracts them from your total in the register AND in your pending transactions, so your projected balance is incorrect.
