Monthly Fill versus Folder view

When I look at the monthly fill amount, it does not match the total when I edit the envelopes.
Should they match and why are they different?

Great question!

It’s certainly possible that your monthly budget doesn’t match your monthly fill. They don’t necessarily have to be the same, and here are some reasons why they could be different:

  • You’re using the ‘Set’ option in your Fill: When you use the ‘Set’ option, Goodbudget will add in the exact amount of money to your Envelope needed to reset it to your budgeted amount. That means what’s added to the Envelope will likely not match your budgeted amount, unlike when you use the ‘Add’ option.
  • You made another custom change to your Fill: Even if you generally use the ‘Add’ option when filling your Envelopes, if you add extra money to one Envelope one month while adding the regular budgeted amounts to everything else, then that would cause your monthly fill amount to not match your overall monthly budget.

If that doesn’t answer your question, you might try opening up your fill in one tab and then your budget in another, and then comparing the two. You might find where your Fill and budget began to differ.
