How do I link my new bank account?

I’ve been keeping up with my budget using Good Budget (GB) in my regular bank account for about a year now. I am switching banks but right now I’m in the process of changing my direct deposits to my new bank. Do I need to start a completely new GB account to link this new bank account to or is there a way to link my new bank account to my existing budget?
Brian

Hi @BrianG162

I think you’re just asking if you can add your new bank as a connection to your existing Goodbudget Household. Is that right? If so, yes!

If you haven’t already, you’ll first need to add new Goodbudget Accounts that you’ll link your new shared bank accounts to. After you’ve done that, you’ll add your new bank connection by following the steps below:

  • Head to the 'Add/Edit’ Accounts page
  • Click ‘Edit’ next to your new Goodbudget Account > Add New Bank Connection
  • Follow Plaid’s prompts to enter your bank’s username and password
  • When you get to the step when you select which bank accounts you’d like to share with Goodbudget, be sure to select all of them at the same time
  • When you’re redirected back to Goodbudget, use the ‘Link to Bank Account’ dropdown menu to select your bank account from the list for the Account you originally edited.
  • Repeat using the ‘Link to Bank Account’ menu for all Goodbudget Accounts you’d like to link to your new bank
  • When you’re done, press ‘Save Changes’

As you move more and more of your direct deposits over to your new bank, fewer and fewer automatically imported transactions will sync down into your old Goodbudget Accounts connected to the old bank. Eventually, if you’re no longer using that bank, you can delete those Accounts (know that deleting Accounts is permanent).

I hope that helps! Let me know if I’ve misunderstood you.

Thanks,
Karisa
