CC payment transfer stays under categorized transactions

Hi All!

I had a credit card payment, deleted one, and then turned the other into a transfer. Now, they are both in the list of the confirm/categorize transactions. I’ve saved them both, but they stay there. Weirdly enough, they are not included in the total of transactions that still need to be confirmed/categorized at the top of the page.

Thoughts?

Hi Tim,

It sounds like Goodbudget imported two transactions from your bank/s:

  • one for the positive side of a credit card payment (payment received by credit card account, may have looked like an income when first imported), and
  • the other for the negative side (payment made from checking account, may have looked like an expense when first imported).

You then deleted one of these two and converted the other to an account transfer.

If I’ve understood correctly, then here’s an explanation of what happened:

  • Why do you still see two rows? Your single (not deleted) account transfer now shows up as two rows – one for the positive “half” of the transfer, which “adds” money to your credit card, and one for the negative “half” of the transfer, which removes money from your checking account. Goodbudget shows a single account transfer as two rows since each “half” is on a separate account.
  • Why don’t they show up in the total number of transactions that need to be confirmed? It’s already cleared, so it shows a check mark rather than a “confirm” button. Because it no longer needs to be confirmed, it does not contribute to that total number.
  • Why do you still see them in the “need to confirm” filter view at all? It’s still visible in this view in case you need to compare it to other transactions for which it may be a duplicate. If it’s outside the date range and set of accounts with transactions that need to be confirmed, you’ll no longer see it in this view.

I hope that helps!

Hey Chien,

That was a great response and cleared everything up. Hi five yourself!
