I’m new to Goodbudget and still learning.
I pay my credit cards off every month.
When I made a payment on my credit cards, I recorded them as a transfer from checking to the credit card when they came in to be confirmed.
I then received another transaction for the same amount on both credit cards and it says those transactions need an envelope.
I don’t understand.
Do I create an envelope for the credit cards? And the transactions coming in on those credit cards are connected to those credit cards and already taken out of their envelope.
I’m so confused.
Once you’ve done a transfer in Goodbudget from the payment account to the credit card, you’ve done all you need to do to pay down a card that isn’t carrying a balance. If you’re importing transactions, there’s no way for the app to recognize that the credit card credit and the payment account debit represent the same transaction (the transfer), so it creates a duplicate transaction which you can delete.
Remember that envelopes and accounts are intimately connected to each other but function independently, so you won’t need an envelope just to record a credit card payment since you’ve already accounted for all that spending as you entered each transaction.
Hope that helps!
Hi @Cynthia_Dodick It sounds like you’re using Bank Sync!
You should keep the first payment that you converted to an Account Transfer from your Checking to Credit Card Account. Then, when the second transaction syncs down, you can delete it so that you don’t record your credit card payment twice.
