Big ticket item

What is the best way to account for a one-time big ticket item, like buying a car and paying cash?

Hi @chrisbev1982,

Thanks for your post!

If you’ve been saving up with a Goal or Annual Envelope, you can record your transaction against that Envelope.

Otherwise, I’d recommend creating an Envelope for the purchase. That Envelope will need to be filled with the amount you paid for your big ticket item, so it doesn’t go negative when you record the expense.

If you don’t want the Envelope hanging around after you record your purchase, you can delete it (which is a permanent action that cannot be undone). When you delete an Envelope, the transactions associated with the Envelope will still be visible, so you can see them in your spending reports.

I hope that helps!
Karisa

Thank you!
