I am having trouble with my good budget account showing a different amount to my actual bank account but when I put the actual account in the reconcile amount box, it still reconciles. My accounts are not synced and i manually input every transaction. Here is an example of what is happening (not real figures):
Good budget account has total of $100.06, Bank account total is $100.09. I click reconcile in my account in good budget, put $100.09 in the reconcile box and it reconciles to zero.
This is probably because Goodbudget is only reconciling to the most recent reconciliation, and the difference is correct. At some point an error was made and reconciled, but since then it’s only looking at the difference between the balances.
To fix it, just edit the balance of the account from the Accounts screen to the correct amount. This will create a line item you can rename if you choose to, but it won’t be tied to an envelope (except Available). When you reconcile next time, change the previous balance by the amount of the adjustment and reconcile the new line.
I would do this immediately after full reconciliation so that the adjustment will be the only transaction on the list.
This is kind of a pro move and getting the previous balance right requires some mental math, so jot down all the figures first just in case you accidentally end up with double the difference to reconcile instead of 0.00!
