I have been using an envelope budget system for over 35 years (yes, I am an old timer). I started out on paper then wrote a 1400 line basic program to keep track of envelopes and handle transactions, then I used Quicken in a complicated way trying to find a way to adapt Quicken to this system.
The envelope budget system has really straightened out my finances over the past 3 decades. I haven’t had any “surprises” with bills coming in without funds to cover them. It has certainly avoided a lot of fights over finances.
I have been married to my wife Yvonne for 47 years and we are still going strong.
I am a Catholic Deacon, ordained in 1983. My ministry as well as my wife’s has been focused on marriage prep, and marriage counselling. As finances can be a huge problem in a marriage, especially when there are often different goals. When we share this system with couples we can make a major move in helping them come together as a couple.
